Important infomation for our dog owners

We’d ask all our dog owners to read through the following information before you book your grooming session. We’ve all got your pet’s best interest at heart so this is just about checking we all know what to expect, and to make sure we can arrange the service that will best benefit your fluffy companion.

Severely matted pets

Removing a heavily matted coat comes with the risk of nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to skin conditions such as warts, moles, or skin folds that often become trapped in the mats.  Heavy matting also can trap moisture near your pet’s skin, allowing mould, fungus, or bacteria to grow, and causing skin irritations that exist before we begin grooming, but that you may not see till afterwards.

As specified on our services page, we’ll set a limit on 15 minutes careful de-matting time, after which time we’ll have to shave off any remaining matted fur. Any longer than 15 minutes is simply too stressful for your dog.

After-effects of mat removal can include itchiness, hematoma, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of the hair to regrow.  These possible side-effects cannot be predicted or prevented and are not the responsibility of Grooming Marvellous.

In some instances, it may be necessary for you to apply sunscreen to sensitive areas for protection until hair grows back. Be aware that your pet may also exhibit brief temporary behavioural changes as a result of shaving.

BEHAVIORAL ISSUES

Grooming Marvellous reserves the right to refuse service to any pet we feel will be better served in a veterinary facility. We’re not vets, and we don’t pretend to be, so we’ll always defer to their guidance in the best interest of our waggy customers.

Throughout the entire grooming process, we make every effort to keep your pet as comfortable as possible: we do not muzzle or restrain your pet unless it is absolutely necessary. Please note, too, that we do NOT groom animals that bite. If your pet behaves aggressively, the groom will be discontinued and you will still be charged accordingly.

SENIOR PETS AND PETS WITH HEALTH ISSUES

Older and ill pets have a greater chance of injury and often require us to adapt our grooming routine. We’ll only ever groom poorly or elderly pets for cleanliness and comfort, sticking to styles that we’re confident will not add to their stress levels.

FLEA/TICK CONTROL

We keep our Grooming Marvellous van as a flea and tick-free environment and so reserve the right to administer flea or tick treatment at the first sign of infestation on your pet. This will be charged for at an additional cost.

CANCELLATION

We offer our popular pet grooming services by appointment only so please be considerate to our and our other customers’ time if thinking about cancelling at short notice. If your pet cannot be available for its allotted time slot, we ask for at least 48 hours warning in advance. This will allow us to offer your time slot to someone else.

If this is not possible or in exceptional circumstances, give us a call as soon as you can and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Please note that there may be a cancellation fee if your pet is not available for its appointed time.
